Does anyone know anything about this crowd-funded A/C unit?

My sources say if it gets the funding - which it seems it already has - they expect to start shipping in about a year. Others say they are already shipping.

Anyone? This looks like it might be a great unit for travel trailers, regardless of brand.

5,000 BTU's is a deal breaker for me. There's simply not enough capacity.

I saw that page as well. Looks very cool... pun intended. Perhaps for a small trailer, it can act as a booster AC. It it definitely Airstream styled.

Might be nice for a small Bambi sized trailer.

This unit does not have near the capacity needed. My Bambi 22 has an AC with 13, 500 BTUs.

With the small size and low amperage one could use 2 or 3 and still not go over the amp output of a Honda 2000i generator. Also no big lump on the roof and the units may be better at localized cooling and quieter overall.

GOOD points Dennis. AND you don't have to take them along in the cooler weather.

But where would you put them? Airstreams don't have single-hung or double-hung windows to stick them in.

I hate it when reality rears it's ugly head Perhaps use a lower oval window location in the front of the trailer? Also some newer trailers have a movable section near the bottom that might be used. Hard to tell until actual units are available.

Perhaps in one of the Safari or Sport trailers with just the small window opening you could modify the small window to accommodate these, but it still looks like some custom system made from one of the somewhat-pricey 12v-based truck AC systems is the best alternative to the commodity roof-shaker air conditioners.

Hmmmm. I think their estimate as to the number of square feet this will cool is optimistic. Shading every number toward the high side, using this calculator (http://www.cooloff.org/cgi-bin/ac99cap.cgi), I got an estimated "10,300 plus or minus 500" for our 22 foot 1968 Safari. Questionable accuracy.
I assume some custom cutting and chopping would be required. Mount one high, aft, curbside, the other low, fore, street side. These seem to be a stylish and functional alternative to traditional A/C. If the unit works out, some enterprising stream addict may get a nice little cottage industry going.
