buying a used fridge

Hi. I've been deterred by the high price of a new 3way RV fridge (deterred=a stern NO from my other half) and have been looking at used units online. I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts about this, should be simple, it's a big mistake, make sure it has this or doesn't do that when looking at it. I'm thinking that a 3way makes the most sense. I can hook it up myself, I'm also thinking or get help(to hook it up). I found a good price on a Dometic someone is selling, and found a 60s Dometic lpg only fridge. Any (helpful) thoughts are appreciated.

Globie64,

do you still have your old fridge? There are a few companies that sell new cooling units that attach to dometic's and they are about half the price of a new fridge. According to their site, it's an easy bolt on fix?

Sigh. No, one of the first things to go when I got the trailer was the fridge. I had no idea how much they were to replace. I kick myself to this day for dumping it.

I just found out that the fridge I'm looking at is a two-way.

I purchased one at a salvage yard for 750.00 and it has been running for two years and has been great. I also bought one for a 100 bucks and had to put in a cooling unit in it. In retrospect the one from the salvage yard was the better deal, It was like new. I bought mine at Arizona RV Salvage in Phoenix. I'm sure there are RV salvage yards in your neck of the woods.

Thanks. I will be driving through next fall, to Boston and back, but I don't think we can fit a fridge in a Civic Hybrid.

To bad you're not closer as I have a used 2310 (I think) 3 way that is just taking up room in my basement, works great on all 3 powers.

Hey Aerowood... I'm about 15 min north of you (brm). Would love to take the 2310 off of your hands if you're interested in finding it a new home. Have a 67 globetrotter that came without a fridge and am looking to find one in prep for her inaugural trip over Easter weekend....

We bought a rebuilt unit from these guys in Vallejo - works very nicely.

RV refrigerators - Dometic and Norcold refrigerators

No connection other than happy customers.

Hey Bart, this place was recommended to me by Avalon trailer in Benicia, who has installed my new axle. He had nothing but good things to say about Cranes's. I talked to them and they had mostly larger units, but sounds like a good local resource.

Bart beat me to it. I'll just say ditto to what he said.

I was the one who went to pick up the fridge from Crane's. They're not much to look at from the outside, but they were great to deal with and reasonably priced. They have a shop there that look well equipped, well used and well cared for.

So, Adam Blair of Avalon RV in Benicia was doing a couple of other things to our Globetrotter, and he installed the fridge too. Used that night KOAing with a friend. OMG what a difference from using a cooler!!
