Where to connect 12v monitor

I am looking to install a 20" 12v flip down monitor in my 82 excella. I am new to wiring schematics. Should I connect the monitor directly to the battery or to the fuse box or what? Any help would be appreciated.

You clearly want a fuse or circuit braker installed before the monitor and close to the battery positive. Any electrical device in the trailer should be fused. This is especialy true in an all metal chassis. If you feed wire to any electrical devise ever cuts through the insulation and touches the framework of the trailer you got a problem. Fire is not a major risk but attemping to rewire through an Airstream chassis is a problem.

Run a fuse just slightly higher than the amp rating on the item in question. If it is rated to 14 amps I would not run a fuse over 20 amps max. (I am sure your item is lower amperage than that just using it for an example) I am sure there is a rule or calculation out there somewhere... Also some items like motors require a higher rating because of start up amperage.

You never want to run a fuse of higher amperage than the item draws normally,if anything err to one of lower amperage.For motors with high in rush current use slow blow fuse that is sized too the normal running amperage.Bruce

Fues sizing is governed by 2 things. First the size of the wire size of the circuit if it is a general purpose circuit like lighting when more than one fixture is in the circuit and secondly by the amperage of an item if the circuit is only supporting one thing. In that case use a fuse about 125 of the draw of the item.
You will note in your trailer fuse box that the AC is either on a seperate circuit or is split with the microwarve in such a way that only one can be used at a time. You will note that the general lighting fuse supports a half a dozen fixtures all of which combined will determine the fuse size.
