Hi Milo; It's a goesintothe; you know goes from one post into the other! Doesn't make mind to me, You already have the heavy gauge there correct? Redundancy in a AS. got wings?

it is probably a jumper wire to charge the motor batt and or the camper batt when in vehicle driven mode or on univolt mode.both batts are grounded to the same ground some where in the electrical system..

I'm surmising from what you guys have said that it's not an important componant. I was interested because my new batteries (Optima) don't have those side post dealies.
So I can merrily hook up everything to the posts and be on down the road without a battery worry?

That is strange because the cables from the 2 batteries each connect through a separate automatic-reset circuit breaker in the terminal block. A wire between positives would parallel the circuit breakers rather than each one handling its own battery. I see no electrical requirement for such a wire.
I want my batteries as isolated from each other as possible. For that purpose, I installed extra switches so that I can use one battery at a time. Single batteries charge better and with my switches, I can select one battery at a time and prevent an accidentally left-on load from completely draining my batteries when boondocking. I also use the switches to charge only one battery at a time while in storage. I swap the charge to the other battery every Sunday morning when I make my weekly check of the trailer.

Milo: I've been tearing into my electrical system. Guess what, The PO installed a solar panel to charge the batteries and a perko batt switch. There is a 10 gauge wire connecting the + terminals.Appears the solar panel will not charge without a path to the batteries(do ya think?)Anyway without having x-ray vision that's where I stand. SO do you have solar panels? I do not recall seeing one on your most elegant AS. Tim

Milo -- I guess your thread has been hanging for a while. I don't see that you've gotten a specific answer to your question yet. The jumper between the positive poles and the jumper between the negative poles is the OEM wiring in parallel; the output is still 12 volts. The one black wire that heads forward from the near positive pole is what powers the electric hitch jack.
Attached is a photo of my '06 Safari that I took a year ago so that I'd get everything put back in there the way it came out. I can't go out to storage to recharge every month and don't want parasitic load draining them in cold weather, so I take them out and maintain them here at home.
Tim -- I hadn't seen this thread before. Thanks for remembering it was out there!

O.K. I'll admit it. I'm a moron
I had posted my question from memory as the Unit is elsewhere. I went out and got my new batteries and when I went to install them....The electric hitch wire is long and laying partially on top of the batteries. Somehow in my addled brain it seemed to be another connection. In fact the picture above is exactly what I have. P.S. Tim that frig fan you recomended works great!

Just in case
you may want to check just where that power wire to the hitch clears the the front of the battery box, on it's way to the hitch motor. There is a fuse holder located there for the power hitch and in my case was very difficult to find in the darkness of the night. For whatever the reason, mine decided to blow and was very difficult to find because it was hidden by the LP bottle.
Best,

After Mrs. Goin camping blew that fuse the third time..... I can do it in the dark blindfolded.
If you hold the switch after the leg retracts fully. It blows.

I told you. If you try to retract a leg a fuse blows. LOL!
