Victron BMV-712 Shunt Wiring in Battery Box

I am installing a Victron BMV-712 shunt in a waterproof box inside the battery box on the front of the Airstream. I wired the shunt to one of the negatives that had a wire going into the trailer, along with the solar charger port wire. I then noticed that the terminal on the other battery also has a wire disappearing into the trailer.

After reading here, it sounds like one goes to the inverter (this is the one I connected to), and the other goes to the 12v system. I noticed the BMV doesn't pick up on the amps going into the batteries when charging (reads 0 amps).

My question: can I move both of those negative battery wires connected to the negative terminals TOGETHER on the load side of the shunt?

I will be using 2awg from the battery side of the shunt to the negative terminal, and replacing the relatively small (6awg?) wire connecting the two negative terminals with a 2awg.

Yes you can do that. You needn't replace the 6awg unless you have or are planning to upgrade to an inverter larger than 1000W, but I can see your reasoning in doing so since you are already doing some wiring upgrades.

we replaced the stock battery with BB Lion
we then moved the lion battery inside under the bed , as the lion DO NOT gas out.

That way all the equipment stays safe, nice and dry

as long as the BMV is in series with -ve of the battery. There should be NO other connection between the battery and the BMV. That way , all current flows through the BMV.

It wired that way, all should be reading fine.

I have the 2awg on hand. And although not ready to upgrade the inverter yet, it's definitely in a future phase toward solar.

I'm also interested in installing the battery monitor near the battery box. Dry enclosures are easy to find at big box stores. Please post some pics once you get it done.
