Victron BMV-712 panel lights turn off?

I'm installing this tomorrow and wanted to verify that the panel lights do in fact turn off after a period of time. I'd like to install the panel in a visible location but don't want to add another "night light". The manual says they do but I'm a trust but verify guy.

Thanks,
Mike

Have you read the manual? The option is somewhat implied with the "Backlight always on" option, which is then described as:

Quote:
50. Backlight always on
When set the backlight will not automatically turn off after 60 seconds of inactivity.
Range OFF
Range OFF/ON

Yes, I have. As I said "The manual says they do but I'm a trust but verify guy." I was hoping someone would verify that it actually does.

Thanks,
Mike

Curious that would trust ďstrangersĒ on the Internet over the engineers that wrote the software and worked with someone to publish a manual. It isnít like Victron has a reputation of bad engineering...

You can also just set the backlight dim enough to not matter...I personally never look at the BMV display, as my phone provides more info and allows me to quickly see solar status too.

If I had to do mine over I would not mount the display, as said the phone app is easier to read.
As far as light goes I never noticed it.

Just a strangers opinion.

Hi

Yes the light does go out.

As others have done, mine is now buried away. After a bit I found that the phone app is more useful than the display.

I would agree with the strangers comment, but I've been on this forum a couple years and have started to feel like I know some of these "strangers" enough to trust answers from them. Along with following the manual.

Thanks,
Mike

I mounted the display facing outward, inside one my of my exterior compartments. Gives me the chance to check it real quick if I happen to be outside without my phone.
