New to me 1955 Flying Cloud appears to have 15 amp shore power service. It uses a standard 15 amp extension cord (no dedicated SP cord). In order to add Air Con I may need to upgrade the trailer to 30 amp service. Is it as simple as changing out the receptacle and cord, assuming no branch circuit will need more than 15 amps?
Alternatively I could run a completely separate dedicated circuit and shore power cord for the Air Con.
The simple answer is NO.
IMHO. You will need a new distribution panel rated for at least 30 amps.
You can then tie the existing 15 amp service into the new panel with it's dedicated circuit breaker. The A/C would be fed from another breaker. Any other 120 volt devices such as a microwave would be on another breaker. Each breaker should be sized to protect the wiring in that particular branch. The distribution panel should also include a main breaker.
