univolt problem

My 77 argosy univolt was humming pretty loud but after it warms up its not as bad. I am plugged into the house with no battery at present. Left the univolt plugged in for 2-3 days and tonight I have no 12 power. Is it fried? How do I tell? what should I replace it with. thanks

so some searching here - tons of comments about these units...

Most will tell you to junk it and get a new 3-stage, solid state, converter/charger that will do a far better job of charging your batteries...

Many look to BestConverter - Converters, Inverters, Electrical Supplies, Electronics for replacements - they have good prices and great service and will steer you in the right direction for the replacement best for you...I did, and am happy with what they recommended...

Give Randy a call at BestConverter. I spoke with him this morning. Very helpful and He will tell you what you need depending your specific needs. The Univolt in my 68 Trade Wind is toast and I will replace with new solid state unit as soon as I get the rear floor back in. The technology has made a couple of steps forward since 1977, sometime new is better.
