Univolt Inverter Question

Can we isolate the 110 from the inverter with a switch and still have battery power available for the lights?

The inverter is the old buzz box (Univolt 4) type and we were thinking that adding a switch would allow us to shut off the buzz.

We will be replacing it all but for now would like to shut off the buzz.

Univolts and their replacements are converters that convert 110 AC to 12 DC. An inverter does the opposite, converts 12 DC to 110 AC.

Having said that, if you switch off, or unplug for that matter, the Univolt you will still have battery power. Just as you do when the entire Airstream is unplugged. No difference.

Yes you can, but the speed that your battery loses its charge might surprise you.

We have been very busy with school and our first short film that we haven't been able to focus on our home!

We have been very fortunate that the campsite we are at now has a local RV repairman that comes out to the camp and will work on the rig. We spoke to several of the campers here and they recommended him. He has replaced the Univolt (which had some charging issues) and the water-heater. He was quick and not to expensive.

We are amazed at how quiet the camper is now! No more buzz!

Congratulations! Getting rid of the old Univolt is by far the best solution.
