This is the wiring harness coming out of the grommet near the tongue. My question is, what's the best way to get inside to rewire this back to stock? Do I remove the rivets on the skin, or cut an access panel low on the wall, inside, behind the couch?
It should already be accessible under the couch. If not, you can check the belly pan near the front of the trailer for an access panel to get to the wires.

Tracing inside, to where access should be, gets you right behind the horiz. water tank, no panel there. I checked the belly, and there was a riveted-on patch, nearby. I drilled that out/off, and found that the wires are inside a hard plastic (?) tube that goes straight up through the lower front horizontal structural member that is the bottom of the front wall. I'm thinking that busting into the front skin panel, under the window, is sounding like my best bet.
I spent the morning drilling out enough rivets on the front panel to be able to peel back enough to see where the wires are. Above the grommet, between the outer skin and the insulation is a knot of wires. Tomorrow's job is to block open the panel and begin the job of figuring out the wiring and how to splice into it.
Hey bexman, got any pictures of this? My wires go into the trailer and there isn't any access panel or patch inside or out. I'd like to see where they go.
In doing a little more work I find that the original crispy cabling is a bundle of wires of different gauges. It also looks like it was built specially for that use and housed in a round, black cover, not just electrical tape.
Q: Does this type of seven-wire cable exist for puchase by the foot, or as a harness?
I'm not certain about buyiong by the foor. I know I bought a new harness/cable that has the 7 pin connector molded in and it about 6 feet long. I plan on putting a connection like on the tow vehicle on the trailer so I can take the umbilical cord off and stow it away. The Arizona sun is murder on these things.
It's sold by the foot and very expensive. I rewired Spiffy when I had the floor out. I purchased something like 35 feet for about something like $1.50 a foot two years ago. Copper has gone through the roof since then: expect to pay a lot more for it . . .
Do not lighten up conductor sizes - alot of places carry automotive mutli-strand (wal-mart, etc) so go shopping knowing what AWG you are splicing in to....
