PD4655 Making Ticking Noise

I recently purchased a PD4655 from Best Converter and we're out on our first trip since putting it in. I also installed the remote pendant. Occasionally, the converter starts to make a ticking noise. It lasts from 5-20 seconds and then stops for a few minutes. Anyone have a clue what this noise is from or whether we should be concerned? Thanks in advance.

Have the same problem. Super annoying. Randy said it isn't a safety problem but no info on what the noise is, why it is happening and how to stop it while trying to sleep.

There were a few mentions of PD4655 noise in a number of threads, as I recall. Maybe these search results will help?

I think Randy helped other posters here replace their units -- FWIW.

Good luck!

Mine was doing the same thing and it turned out to be a wire was contacting the rear fan blade. Must have moved while traveling. Check and make sure wires are clear

It's usually nothing or something that goes away in a couple days if it's internal during first power up. If it continues, call them or us and we will fix the issue. Replaced maybe 3 units in the last 5 years. That is is hundreds per year in service, not all Airstream of course. Yes, check for a wire that migrated to the fan too.

Following up on this. I pulled the cover from the inverter and there was one potentially touching one of the fans. I tidied up all the wires and secured them. We are finally out and about again and I'm happy to report that we haven't heard any noise from the inverter. The longest we were continuously connected to shore power was two nights and our electrical load wasn't all that high but I wanted to report back. Based on the sound I had heard I was dubious this could be the problem but I am once again a happy camper and thankful for the experience and help from this forum.

PD excellent customer service

I has a similar issue (more of a buzzing) and contacted PD. Despite not being the original owner of the unit and not having a receipt, they mailed me a replacement unit and a shipping label to return the faulty one. New unit is completely silent. Customer service is alive and well!
