I won't need to replace the 12 volt 15 amp fuse block.

I could go with a Boondocker model but would then have to cut and splice.

That about right?

That is correct except I recommend the newer 4655 VL model. In addition to having the Lithium jumper should you ever go that route in the future, it is a newly designed printed circuit board with the latest surface mount soldering technology and components. It really is a better durable product and the most quiet.

PD 4655 Install & Trouble shoot

Snowey and 68 Overlander,

Can you please review my post # 178 and the second picture to insure correct installation and voltage reading? ( not sure how the pictures got inverted) Thanks for your suggestions and guidance.

Hi Skip,
It appears correct and the voltage is fine. That is the "normal" or absorption mode.

I installed the new 4655 VL + remote pendant + 12 volt 15 amp fuse block. Thanks to the posts in this forum and the pictures by Snowy all went smoothly.

I have two AGM batteries.

After I turned the shore power back on the green LED light came on and blinked every 8 seconds indicating it was in Storage Mode.

Just before I went to bed it started blinking every second and was still blinking every second when I got up this morning indicating Normal Mode.

Since I never unplugged the shore power I'm curious why would it come out of storage mode?

It was a voltage change. If it slipped into the storage mode, you likely turned on enough DC power to "wake" it up from the float mode to the normal mode. I really don't think you have anything to be concerned about.

I'm very pleased with the upgrade. Now that I have the pendant what surprises me, (and it shouldn't after spending a good part of my life turning wrenches) is how long it takes to charge the batteries that last 10%.

Agree Larry. The last 10% is always the longest. Many folks that boondock for extended periods use a 50-90 rule of thumb meaning they try to not go below 50% SOC but only attempting to get back to 90% on a daily basis saving that last 10% for an over night charge when you get back home. Charging from 50 to 90% should only take 2-3 hours with a modern 4 stage converter.

Fast flash constant on Wizard

I installed the PD 4655, and Wizard before I hit the road.
The Wizard is always flashing fast. It never changes flash pattern.
I did try pressing and holding.
I did not bring the jumper wire with me.
Any solutions or problems this could cause?
Thanks, Arnold

It takes a good 36 hours for mine to go from blinking fast (Normal Mode) to blinking every 8 seconds (Storage Mode).

See posts #41, #42, and #188.

Do y'all ever hear the cooling fan on the PD4655 come on? The Parallax I took out came on all the time. With the PD4655 on my 23FB, I never did. On my 23D, I hear it come on more frequently. Not a real concern...just wondering.

Hi pcskier,
It is temp controlled and will run when it needs to. No other way to describe it and some people drive themselves crazy trying to predict it Don't worry and just let it do it's thing.

Hey Randy,

When did PD start shipping the VL version of the PD 4655? Mine has a mfr date of 5/14/2018 on the box but ends in a V, not VL. Not that I'm likely to put lithiums in but you never know. Could gave sworn you said it was VL when I bought it.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Several months ago. If you bought the VL, then you got it but they have not changed the boxes yet and the white label still says V. The VL has a jumper that you move for Lithium. Here is how you tell by looking at the unit. There are 3 pins on the jumper. It come in the Flooded/AGM position (right 2 pins) but the photo shows the Lithium position (left 2 pins) as viewed from the front of the unit. The V model printed circuit boards didn't have this and look totally different. These also have the new surface mounted soldering and newer technology components so even of you never plan on Lithium batteries, it's still a better printed circuit board. The brownish 4 pin connector left of the arrow is where you plug in the remote pendant.

Since you have the new to Airstream WF-8955 PEC, some of the comments in this thread won't apply. You actually have it easier since the PD 4655L Wildkat does not come with a fuse board (not needed) but the pendant is included so you can interact with the Charge Wizard. Your batteries will thank you and you won't experience the dimming and flicker lights the WFCO 8955 is known for.

Success!!! Well almost....

So after darn near memorizing this thread (THANK YOU SNOWY!! and everyone else too!)...and reading Progressives instructions Many times and taking lots of notes to self, I got the new
PD4655VL converter installed with only minor issues like the black wire on the DC side being so short it barely reached the lug on the board when run behind the board. But i conquered that one ok.

Of all the things I was scared about running into I never expected that the only issue now is the door
( power center cover) going back on .

Screwed in the new converter as low down as it would go ( 1st picture below)

Then I put the cover back on , lining up the screws and even used the new smaller screws provided .
But there is a significant gap at the top as seen in second picture below.
This doesn’t make sense since all the screws are lined up to correct holes. And the top half that swings down to open doesn’t exactly “swing” . We have to yank on it pretty hard to get it to open.

Anyone else run into this and find a way to fix it?

Thanks!!

I shouldn’t complain because all else is working!!
Watching the wizard pendant and pressed it to verify cycles worked. So far so good . New multimeter coming tomorrow to confirm voltages but I’m sure it’s just fine.

I pulled the trigger and ordered the PD4655. It came in the mail, and went to install it today.

A couple of questions though.

The new dc board doesn’t have the VCC+ input. What is it? Do I need the new dc board for the full functionality - I have read no but want to confirm.

It looks like the only feature it brings to the dc board is a light - where would the pendent go on the main board?

Old dc board:
