Necessity to upgrade if not on shore power long term?
If the longest I'm ever plugged in to shore power is a week or so, and then batteries are kept on a smart trickle charger between trips...is there any advantage to upgrading to a multi-stage converter? Or is it only when stored longer term on shore power with the stock unit that the batteries overcharge? It's a moot point because I just ordered one from BestConverter, but I am curious anyway.

Lots of reasons including your example. No need for a trickle charger and much better charge profile when you are plugged = substantially longer battery life!

In op photos the control cable runs from board below to the 12v board. If you use the pendant, I guess you splice cable from board below and nothing is connected to the 12v board?

There is no pd92201tv listed on PD website and the pd92201 on their site shows a phone type plug.

It's not on their website but it does exist. I have hundreds of them, or at least dozens. They plug directly into the converter and not the phone cable plug but rather the 4 pin used on the 4600 series upgrades.

Kinda, if you use the correct pendant, it does plug into the converter and no splicing is required. If fact, there is no reason to even change out the fuse board on the 7355 or 8355 since the same status indicator and over ride button is on the pendant and you can see it and use it without having to crawl on the floor and open the panel

Snowy, thanks for the pictures and step-by-step instructions. Appreciate the extra time to document the installation and write it up for our benefit. Just ordered my PD4655 from Amazon.

Amazon? Check there is a serial number with it. Lot of unautherized dealers out there. If they are legit, they will help with install and supply you with the correct pendant.

Hi Randy,
Is sold by Amazon and look legit. BTW I didn't realize you are the Randy ( I didn't connect until I read your post) and you do sell the PD4655. I would have buy it from you if I know earlier - I do want to do business with members of this forum.

Randy,
When I attempt to install, I found my 2017 27FB FC, dual ACs has the Parallax Series 5300, 55 amps, converter. See attached pictures of my converter/charger. The PD4655 will not work for me.
Visited your bestconverter.com. Look like I need the Boondocker BD1260HW, 4-stage converter/charger. The reason for the upgrade is prevent overcharging the batteries and to extend their life. Randy, would the BD1260HW works for me?
Also in your website, it stated "the BD1260HW is for hard wired application when a power cord is not needed". What does this statement means?
How difficult to remove the existing 5355 and installing the Boondocker? Does the BD1260HW comes with instruction for the removal of the 5355?

Sinwing,
You did get the incorrect part. There is no "kit" for the 5355 so the hard wire version of the Boondocker allows you to modify (remove and replace) the lower converter section and wire it to the AC side of the panel. The photos were taken from a member of this forums (Ms Tommie Fantine Lauer) and ARE the instructions. She made a nice lexan block to mount the fuse board to after installing the Boondocker but its not really necessary unless you just want to. Most people just mount the fuse board to the side of the converter.
I'm not allowed to link to the photos but you or somebody else can.

PD4655 Install with Pictures
Got my answer and ordered the pd4655 last night. I plan to keep current DC board and use the pendent routing through wall and into bathroom where I have my surge suppressor panel.

You'll love it. The Pendant makes it easy to know what your converter is doing when connected to shore power and even when you're not.

Installed yesterday. Easy install. The cable of the pendent was too short to locate where I wanted so ended up splicing in an extension today. Guess everything is working ok. Light is blinking ever second or so.

Blinking every second is the normal mode. Solid is boost and slow blink is float.
I've asked for a longer remote cable but the PDI engineer says might cause EMI issues so they wouldn't do it. I've had enough customers, and myself, successfully lengthen it that I'm going to hit him again with it. I think it's currently 4-5 feet and most put it on the outside of the panel door anyway so it's not a big deal but for those that want it further away, it would be nice.

For those that have the 4655 installed, how long does it take to get to the slow blink state? Mine has been in for a few days now and all I see is the normal chg blink every 1-2 seconds. My AS is just sitting with shore power on and not being inhabited right now. I can cycle thru the states so that seems ok

I took delivery of a brand spanking new 2017 FC in Aug. We hit the road and have been staying in full hook-up parks the whole time. Guess what? We did some beach boondocking down in Baja and my May 2016 batteries are fried Had to buy a new pair at the Costco in Cabo san Lucas. Now back in the US and am placing my order for the PD 4655 with BestConverter.
Why oh why did AS install that POS Parallax unit? I'd gladly have paid them the $25 difference in the OEM cost
