FWIW: I upgraded to the Powermax boondocker the same week I picked up our new AS. There may be better ideas for mounting?? I didn't try to salvage the OEM converter case. I picked up some aluminum channels at HD to hold the converter off the floor for air circulation. Then I used some wood blocks to attach/hold the power center cover. With the cover on you can't see the wood blocks.

I have a PM4B Boondocker coming but it looks like it may be delayed cause y'all bought them all. LOL I look forward to seeing the installs. Mine is just a replacement for a Parallax 7455. Pray for no smoke and patience.

PD4655 Converter
I'd be interested to know about that Tater. Even if we run out from one warehouse we can ship them from another. Usually NO delay and I'm checking on that now. I can't see your order since I'm sure you didn't order it under the name Tater lol
I see Homosassa on your profile. I remember that. No reason it won't ship immediately.

Short answer is no because the 4655 is an upgrade kit for an existing Parallax 7355 and does not contain the AC breaker panel and DC fuse board. You would need a full power center or a distribution panel and a separate deck mount converter.

Ok got it - looks like I'll keep my same fuse panel and replace only the converter
I'm off to look at it a bit later tonight

I just started replacing my 7355 with the PD 4655. While removing the old converter, I was removing the hot wire from the breaker. The wire was spliced with a short wire going to the wire nut. I was planning on just splicing my new converter wire with the short wire going to the wire nut and replacing the metal splicing gizmo in the picture below. My issue is, I cannot find where to get this metal gizmo. What are others doing who have come across this?

Randy, my Boondocker is open like Pharm's. The existing Parallax is enclosed in a metal case. Are you saying just put the Boondocker in and leave it open on top? Any chance of debris falling from the couch into the converter. I'm antsy about leaving it open since the original is enclosed. For some reason I can't post the image as it keeps asking for a URL of the image on the insert image button. Thanks.

If Randy's reply does not rid said antsy feelings - then request the closed unit
For me actually I think it will be much easier to keep it clean of dust and dirt over time
I imagine the closed unit will still gather some dust inside - esp considering the fan blowing in?
With it open blowing it out will be easy and require no removal of anything - what does it take to remove the closed unit to use canned air - I plan on looking at my innards of my stock converter to see how much dust accumulated
Plus it may stay a tad cooler open?

Didn't know there was a closed unit option. That would be more in order to directly replace what is there. Will see what Randy says. Being under the couch and pulling it out to make a bed could be a problem if there's anything on the couch. Of course the rest of the box is open.

Cut it and use a wire nut on the wire to power the converter.
I will post a photo when the board clears up. It has a gremlin at the moment and I cannot post a photo.

You could build a cover if you're concerned about debris and exchanging for a deck mount is perfectly fine too. I can see advantages of each but I'll leave it up to you.

Check my post here where I mention this very problem and how I resolved it with a short section of wire and a wire nut. http://www.airforums.com/forums/f449...ml#post1478980

Is the deck mount enclosed. What's the model number and I'll look it up. Thanks.

I did just that! I looked at 4 different stores for that doo dad - nobody had it. I just cut the existing converter power wire and splice in the new one and tied it off with a wire nut. Once I did that, the rest of this install went fast. Currently showing 13.6v at the DC circuit board. 13.48v at the battery.
Thanks everybody for the advise, and a special thanks to Randy for being available and for the fast shipping!!
