Parallax 7455 975w converter/charger DEAD...what is a good replacement?

Just bought an 05 30' Classic and had a crash course on the electrical systems. Throughly tested and trouble shot it and the battery charging piece is dead. I'm new to RVs so what are the recommendations for a new unit with smart charging capabilities? Do I order another Parallax?

Thanks! I spoke with Randy but there aren't any circuit board fixes for the 7400 series. So I assume I'm hunting for a new unit altogether.

Check with Progressive Dynamics..
They sold me a smart charger replacement.

The 2015 I bought new out of the factory from Casita failed within 6 months and killed 2 batteries..Parallax stood behind their 2 year warranty and took 3 weeks to diagnose a failed defective to turn around a rebuilt replacement.

In the meanwhile I was without a power supply and chose a Progressive Dynamics for very few more bucks..The Parallax are made in China, the ProgDyn are made in the USA..

Straight forward replacement. Working at shoelace level made everything go slow..

We too a lot of photos prior to unscrewing and or opening anything.
All in all with a number of breaks about 2 hours..

Im sure with the experience the next one will be in half the time. Flawless now for 6 months.
Oh also much quieter fans.

Based on an awful lot of recommendations from Forum members, I purchased a Progressive Dynamics 4655 to replace that Chinese Crap. Seems to work. My batteries are now fully charged with a specific gravity. Of 1.300 plus at 0 Deg.C. VDC shows 12.5-7 at zero.

Yep! That's what I got. I haven't installed it yet (still winter here) but it is a direct replacement for the single stage battery burner that the factory put in. Why do they do that???

This one is a 4 stage and will not boil the batteries. I lost a battery on the old one within four months. It just doesn't shut off. Who knew. I know now, though, and interstate replaced the dead battery.

I wrapped the converter up as a Christmas present and gave it to my wife. She said, "What's this thing?". How thoughtful of Santa.

Before doing anything, be sure that the battery disconnect is not set. Or be sure the use/store button is set to use. Your '05 converter should not be hosed unless something was done to hose it.

Lots and lots of posts on AF on this issue. I read them all, and then bought a PD 4645 to replace my Parallax 7645 before it failed or boiled my batteries. It was a drop in replacement and has served me very well. Good luck.

I asked progressive dynamics about their product line particularly with a view to changing to lithium in the future. The vp sales and marketing Mike Walters said the following:

1. The 9100 series is 3 stage charging and the 9200 series is 4 stage charging and has the charge wizard in it. This will extend the life of your battery. Both are compatible with wet cell and AGM lead acid batteries. The 9100 series is available for lithium, example PD9160ALV.

The 9200 series does not have a lithium equivalent because 4 stage charging is not needed for lithium. Even though you could charge a lithium battery with the regular 9100 series you will shorten the lithium battery life if you don’t use the lithium model. Also the charge time will be much faster if the lithium model is used on the lithium battery.

2.We currently have available the 9100 series deck mount, the 4560K18L all in one, the 4045 all in one and 4060 all in one for lithium charging.

PDI’s 4600 series *will be adding a 4655 lithium replacement converter for the WFCO 8955. This will roll out sometime in June 2017. Additionally any existing lead acid converters PDI 4560,4060 or 4045 series can be converted to lithium with a replace board making upgrading easy. The deck mount units will have to be replaced with a lithium deck mount but the foot print is the same.
