Overvoltage

I have an Onan 4000 in my MH. If I use the Genset for the electrical power, if I don't have the air conditioner on, when I turn on a light, the light blows out. Even with the air off, the lights burn too bright. There isn't a problem on shore power or with battery. Is there a way to turn down the voltage?

The voltage is controlled by the governor (speed of the engine - the faster the engine turns, the higher the voltage)....the governor is adjusted via a threaded rod on the top of the genny with a linkage to the carb - make sure all of the springs are in their proper position - there should be at least two springs holding tension on the governor.

The first thing you need to do is get an accurate voltage meter to determine the actual voltage the unit is putting out - if you're planning on doing serious work on the MoHo don't wimp out and buy a cheapie multimeter - get a good one.

If you are not familiar with working on Onans, I would suggest taking the unit to a certified Cummins Onan repair station.
