Outside Battery Box

I am moving the propane tanks forward a few inches so that I can mount batteries up front on the tongue just outside the exterior wall.
Question, does anyone have a good pic of a battery or other type of metal box thats mounted on the tongue?

Are you set on mounting a metal box to the A-frame? SOB trailers have angle iron welded to the A-frame so that two plastic battery boxes can be placed inside them and strapped down.

I built a box that holds two group 24 batteries between the exterior wall and the propane tanks. I based the design on the original battery box for my 1961 Safari. I think you can see photos of the box if you check under "my images". It was a tight fit, but I have a good 3/8th of an inch to spare. My original box was riveted to the front of the trailer so I used the same method for the new box. That makes sure there is room for the equalizer hitch to fit without obstruction as it keeps the tongue free.
I have been using it for several years and some long trip without any problems.

I got this box from Best Converter. The front door was on a piano hinge but wouldn't clear unless I unbolted and removed the threaded rod for holding down the propane tanks. So, I removed the hinge and relaced it with the clamps you see (from McMaster Carr). Now it will come off sideways. For moving batteries in and out I still have to remove the tanks, but just to access the compartment I don't. And, the threaded rod can stay regardless.

I saw a metal battery box with hinged lid at Al's RV, that looked similar to the OEM box on our 2005, 19-foot Bambi. You might check out the RV parts stores in your area, as it appears that someone makes aftermarket boxes that might work.
