I've a 1976 Tradewind and need information about my battery box. When I bought the trailer all that was in my outside battery compartment are black and red wires ending with a hermaphroditic connection. Since I'm trying to restore my trailer as near original as possible, I always want that look.
Does anyone know what was in an original trailer?
If you are going to use the trailer, you will want a new battery. AGM battery, and maybe a smart charger. Keep the old stuff so you can give it to the next owner.
Unless it is a museum piece, I wouldn't worry about a vintage battery
What you're seeing is the remains of the "Easy Disconnect" plug. It was thought to be simple solution to removing the battery without having to fight the post clamps. In practice it was another set of corroding, voltage dropping contacts.
I looked at plugs used for electric trolling motors. Wasn't impressed.
Went to NAPA and got a good set of 30 inch battery cables. Now I've got enough play to slide the battery onto the lid and connect up the clamps without any trouble.
