One needs to step up from Interstate lead acid car batteries to at least GSM cells if a 1500 watt capacity is required for more than a few minutes. One can safely draw about 30% of the power from lead acid batteries, 50% from GSM batteries and 80 to 85% from lithium iron phosphate batteries.
The Magnum MS 2012 would fill the bill for 2000 watts of power if the battery bank is sized properly.
Typically in solar applications, the battery bank amp hours is 75% of the solar wattage on the roof. We have 800 watts of solar panels and a 600 amp hour battery married to a Magnum MS-2812. It will start and run the 15K BTU air conditioner for awhile.
The Hybrid Magnum series can augment a 2000 watt generator output with battery power to start and run an air conditioner where the generator alone could not do so.

What I am hearing is that there is only one brand to buy and that is magnum right?
Switz, that all depends on what kind of system you want- what are the needs. A gentleman did a study on battery types for solar I am not able to hunt on the road but he actually recommends two directions for batteries depending on system size needs and he recommends lead acid due to low cost. He offers charts and says never buy. Sealed for solar and AGM is overkill. If I get a chance I will post the site at least. My system meets my. Needs but oddly when I went to use the inverter it was dead so now I need one. 1000 watt is rated for my system I just thought I would go to 1500 watts. I have been able to find high ratings for magnum and a brand called AIMS but no personal experience both are pricey.

Nod,
Sounds like you should be just fine with a 1000 W inverter. Amazon is a good place to purchase such a unit. As for The China/US debate, I'd vote with my wallet. Electronic components are largely made overseas and the fact that the final assembly is made in the US doesn't change the reliability of the unit. Perhaps the Magnum's are easily serviced but heck, why pay $1000 for a 1000 W inverter when you could by five of these http://www.amazon.com/Sunforce-11240.../dp/B000WGNNUQ for the same price! They also have two year warranties.
These units are typically very easy to install. Good luck with your replacement.

I found and bought a magnum energy csw1012 1000 watt pure sine wave inverter. Maybe it will hold up. It is a really light weight inverter compared to the old one. Thanks to all who commented to my problem!

Lewster,
I too became convinced when you commented on inverters. I recently recieved my Magnum MS2012 from RV Power Parts from your neck of the woods. I look forward to seeing how this will perform, and yes I bought the controller also. I'm coupling it with 4 6V 190 AH AGM Duracell batteries.... I know what your going to say, should have used Lifeline, but I've been hearing mixed feeling on the brand as far as cost comparison. Anyways, thanks for setting the record straight. Your the type that makes this forum possible!

Thanks AA!
If you have any specific questions about the settings to use for your battery bank, shoot me a PM. The charging section of the MS-2012 will do your batteries a great service, but you have to program the ME-RC properly to achieve all the benefits.
Welcome to Club Magnum!

Make sure installer uses the correct copper wire size between the batteries and the Magnum. This will be the most expensive short wire you have probably purchased.
We used 4-0 copper and, as an understatement. it is not very pliable.
If the batteries can be located close together, consider using one inch wide by one eighth inch flat copper bar stock to connect the battery terminals together to keep the connections as short as possible.

Solid copper bar is great stuff!! Use it all the time.........
Also, If you use heavy cables, look for class 'K' welding cable. Bends like butter............even up to 4/0.

What would be the recommended thickness and width? I understand that the bigger the better but what would be the "standard" for the ms 2012 model and 4 6v batteries worth at 190 AH a piece?

For 300 amp/hours or less, I use 1/8 X 3/4". For larger battery banks, 1/8 X 1".

Just thought to add more info on the inverter discussion. I did find that not all Asian brands are the same (obviously) most everything is built overseas but some carry the CE, UL458 and other ratings which provides more detail on the quality. One brand rated highly that is Chinese is GoPower. Four of their pure sine units are UL rated.

...........and unfortunately just like all of the other Chinese inverters, they are throw-aways when they fail!

Old thread but I'm in the market for either a 2000w inverter or 2000w inverter/charger.
Anyone have further thoughts given 3 additional years?

Very happy so far with our Victron hybrid inverter / charger, installed just over a month ago. Our model is 3,000 watts, though.

3,000w could work. I'm wired for it. And I love Victron stuff. Have their solar controller and battery monitor which both work splendidly.
Do you know if they have a straight inverter that's 2000w or more? I only see 1200w and the inverter/charger gets spendy.
[edit] I do see one for about $1300. Still spendy.

I hear ya. And went that way before. But I won't use the inverter a lot so was hoping to minimize cost here.

Scott,
Here is a link to a users discussion of pros/cons of magnum vs victron:
http://www.rvnetwork.com/topic/12687...um-vs-victron/
They are very close when compared. I like durable on the trailer so I went magnum. Found many good prices but most low priced vendors were not authorized sellers by magnum.

Good to hear from you old bud!
Thanks for the link. If I was running my trailer with this i'd go victron but I'm really looking for something that will run a blender a few times a week without frying my rig.

We used the Magnum MS-2812 on the Classic in 2014 as its had two 30 amp contacts which was what few needed with 50 amp two pole service. We put in a new primary power panel and redistributed the load so that one A/C, the refrigerator and water heater AC power loads where shed when on the 600 amp-hour lithium battery.
We put the Magnum hybrid MSH-3012 in our 23D with 30 amp service. It will pull power from the 300 amp-hour lithium battery to help start the single A/C when using just one propane powered Honda 2,000 watt generator.
