I have a 1960 Tradewind that I'm "renovating". It has 2 different receptacle / umbilical cord connection points, they both look like they were factory installed originals. The bigger one looks like the typical point of connection, I have the cord that matches it AND I have verified that it works.

I'm trying to figure out what the other one is for and if I should keep it for some reason. It is about 3/4" in diameter and has 4 prongs. The wires connected to it are fairly heavy gage. 2 wires are tied together and then go into the wall above, 1 wire goes with that wire into the wall above and then the 4th wire goes to the break away switch.

I believe this is where you would plug in the battery. Do you have 12VDC power in the trailer?

Lee, I do have 12v, I have (had) reduntant lights at each fixture location (a 12v and a 110v).

I'm replacing "everything", including installing a converter (which this trailer didn't have, not sure when they started using them). I'm also moving the battery location. Regardless, I'm thinking there would no longer be a reason to have this kind of connection point - true?

If it's what I think it is then there would be no reason to have that anymore. I moved the battery plus converter inside and wired 12vdc thoughout the 60 Caravel. It originally had only one 12vdc light. Now I can boondock.

the previous owner may have carried extra battery power in his/her tow vehicle, and connected them to the trailer via this connection-just extra reserve power. Not a bad idea, overall-but one would need the matching plug/receptacle to connect.
