In favour of the univolt.
It is really just a 6 volt power transformer with a voltage doubler circuit and a blockig diode to prevent current flowe back to the car.
If the voltage is down then the cause is to replace the doubler capacitor. A 1 ufd 20 volt capacitor obtainable from any electric motor shop for just a few dollars. The diodes are10 to 20 amp and are also available. the tansformer will not reduce the output.
