My invertor suddenly stopped!

Hi, I am restoring a 75 trade wind and nearing completion. I wired some new lights in, 12 volt led. I connected them to the same wires that used to operate the small pocket lights located in the over head panel over the front couch. when I reconnected the electric, I have no power to these 3 new lights, and my invertor suddenly stopped. Could I have fried it? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ray

Have you checked the fuses?
You don't have an inverter. You have a converter.
If it is the original. There are fuses inside the small door on the end or near by.

i think led light might be polarity sensitive. that is it matters if the positive is connected to the positive and not reversed. test for power at the connection with a meter or test light.

Thank you for your help, and yes convertor, thanks. Are these fuses inside the convertor?Do I have to remove the rivets, as I tried to remove the nuts on the other end but cannot figure out how to open it. When plugged in ,I do hear a very low hum, not as usual. Thanks, Ray

If you have the original UniVolt, I have an easy answer for you - replace it. There are much, much better converter/chargers out now. The new ones charge your battery better, weigh less, and put out considerably less heat.

As said above, LEDs are polarity sensitive. They will not work id wired wrong. The power they use is near zero when they work and zero for sure when they don't so I can't see how you could have fried anything. Reverse the wires and try again.

If the fuses as part of the univolt are used, and you replace it, keep in mind that you'll have to rewrite those lines to a new fuse panel. If you've got the blue box around the univolt, the fuses may be in a panel in the wall above it.
Some, not all LED lights are polarity sensitive, some have circuits built in to negate this, but one that is polarity sensitive in backwards blocks current in that line if connected serially.

nu2argosy, try contacting LEDs 4, Recreational Vehicles for info about the wiring of the leds. dan is a member of the forum and can help you out with lighting questions.
