Moving the batteries up front.

Ok, I would like to take the batteries out of the back on the trailer and put them up on the tongue. With two of them right in the back it seems like unnecessary weight on the rear end.


My question is will There be enough power if I run the wires from the front to the back to the inverter. I figure on using 10 or 8 gage wire.????

Then, do they make a box to cover 2 batteries long end to long end???

Or will I have to make one of those too. Could look nice out of aluminum!!!

I wouls suggest that you use # 6 wire, with a 50 amp 12 volt circuit breaker in the line.

The battery box, you will have to make, or make a platform, and strap on a couple of plastic battery boxes. The only problem with the plastic battery boxes, is that everyone can see them, and the batteries might mysteriously disappear, when your not looking.

But, I sure you know that no one would steal them, but they might borrow them, permanently.

If you make a metal box, make sure you put a couple of small drain holes in the bottom, and a tiny vent at the back of the box, near the top.

Why the Circuit breaker Andy?

I would like to move the inverter to but I would still have to run the wires from that to the back as well, and there is really no place for it up front. So I figure just the battery lines is enough.

A 12 volt circuit breaker, is an electric safety device in your case.

If anything went wrong, with the wiring, caused by who knows what, vibration, accident, or what ever, you have protected the entire trailer from a possible fire.

Cheap insurance, to say the least.

I'd like to put two batteries on the tongue of my '72, too, but I don't thing there is enough room.

Purman, is there enough room on the tongue of your '68 to do this?

I have two of the regular size batteries, If I put them long end to long end they just fit in front of the lp tanks and the jack stand. I have made a bracket to hold them out of angle iron that I was using in the rear.

There is about 3/4 of an inch on either side of this to spare. I will be making an aluminum cover with a vent on the back side to cover them.

I thought I would have to move the brake away switch but it just clears it.

Now, if I put the batteries side by side short ways, they would not fit.
