Lithium Jump Starters

Getting ready to buy a lithium jump starter, like this NOCO 1000 amp unit from Amazon for $100:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015TKUPIC...=3SAV4I5ZC3VMY

Is anyone else familiar with this line of jumpers, or could recommend another brand? It seems like 1000 amps is a good mid-range size for our 3.5L V-6 in the van, plus it has USB port for phone etc. charging. Also is a flashlight.

One downside is there no 120-volt transformer charging option from what I can see, so I guess the unit usually lives in the tow vehicle being charged? The optional case and extension cord seem worth it. Edit -- It can be charged from a USB source, however, so I guess a 120-volt USB charging plug will work, but will be slower than an old-fashioned plug-in transformer style charger?

The 2000 amp unit is about double the cost at $200, and seems like overkill for our intended use. Your thoughts please . . .

Thanks,

Peter

Link below to the kind I use. They are in amazon and if you search you tube great reviews and how to use videos.

I showed her once and she has it down in terms of how to use.

This one

I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/slredirect...getName=sp_atf

It charges from 120v as well as other ways.

I bought the NOCO 2000 and like it. Well made and nice design. It stays in my wife's Pilot then comes with us on the road to jump my diesel tow vehicle. I charge it in the house on an iPhone wall adapter if that helps. So it's just like plugging into the wall.

I'm curious why you did this to the link.

Thanks Ted. If you did not have a diesel TV would the 1000 amp NOCO be OK in your opinion?

Thanks Larry also.

Because I am not wild about the way that regular YouTube links become a large video window here. Clutters things up visually IMO and detracts from a discussion. Too much screen time I guess! I like the written words better.

I was given the Halo Bolt 58,830 for Christmas. They are on QVC right now for $109, but are much more expensive elsewhere. At first, I did not take it seriously, given its very small size and fancy design. But it has since started our and others' cars many times, instantly, and has AC and USB ports, and a work light. We now own 3. Joe

Thanks joe, interestingly that Bolt unit also has a receptacle to plug in a 120-volt device like a laptop. Amazon has one left at $140.

I have a different brand that I have used to jump a high compression Corvette. Worked great.

Yes, I would have gotten a smaller one. Since this is stored inside a vehicle, I didn't want to skimp on quality I wanted to go as safe as possible. This one seem to fit the bill and I am happy with it.

The NOCO jump batteries can be charged using USB or a regular 12v outlet.

+1 for the Noco. I bought two. A 2000 for my TV and a 1000 for my other car. Well built, charge quickly, charge lasts forever. Haven't had to jump start my vehicles yet, but plenty of YouTube videos showing them in action.

Peter, I got the noco gb70 2000amp for me, a Jeep GC, but likely a diesel truck in future. For wife's car, I got her the gb20 400amp.

Noco 150 test. This model runs just under $300.

Thanks Kelvin. Other than your diesel tow vehicle are there any other reasons why you got such a large capacity unit? We have a gas 3.6L V-6 engine, and the regular assortment of phones and tablets. Seems like the NOCO 1000 would be adequate, but maybe you use it for things we haven't considered?

Thanks Troutboy.

Thanks,

Peter

I think I could get away with the GB 70 for jumping the Cummins batteries. That would be the main use for the purchase even though it has a micro and stand USB ports and an LED light. Its small enough to keep in a glove box. I could use it also to power my auxiliary water pump to pump water from a container to my trailer's water tank.

Thanks Kelvin for your last reply.

Any new ideas on the lithium jump starters, everyone?

I have started another thread about the new generation of lithium battery tools, and would appreciate everyone's thoughts there too.

Seems like this new universe of lithium batteries could make our travels a lot more efficient in certain ways.

Thanks,

Peter

PS -- Then of course there are the new threads about towing with a Tesla X SUV, and EV's as tow vehicles. The future is here!

I also use mine booster pack to power the Viair Portable 450P Automatic air compressor. Works great and is more convent than opening the hood of my TV or the battery compartment of the AS. The battery pack will recharge while driving from the cigarette lighter outlet or with an adapter from 120v wall outlet.
