My feel good price right now would be $1000 for 200ah lithium batteries but currently runs about $1900 from Stark. I may have to wait a long time so a couple of new 6v 220 ah will have to do.

Kelvin,

The MMS 1012 does not have the firmware for using the 'custom ' charge programming found in the ME-RC remote. You will need the MS 2012 or higher model for that feature to work.

Looking at the MMS1012 manual I found in the charger section:
The MMS Series inverter/charger uses default settings that are
adequate for most installations (see Table 6). However, you can
adjust these parameters using Magnum’s optional ME-RC50 remote.

Then I looked at the Magnum RC 50 manual. There is a table showing all the setup parameters. The Setup section also has links to the Magnum site for inverter/charger compatibility but when I use those links they don't go to anything worthwhile just links to the documents area where there is no compatibility document. But I did find a pull down menu for compatibility. The MMS1012 is either at Rev 1.0 for Level 2 compatibility or Rev 1.4 for Level 3. Can't tell until it gets hooked up. Looking at the Setup table the Custom settings for battery charging are >=Level 3. Are currently shipping MMS1012 shipping with Rev1.4?

So what can you do with the RC 50 connected to an MMS1012 Level 2 when using AGM batteries.

Or are you saying you can't custom program a lithium battery bank?

Can the firmware be upgraded on these devices?

Thanks Bold. The remote I'm referring to is the Magnum ME-RC50. This is supposed to allow access to advanced settings on a Magnum Inverter/Charger. Now I'm not sure what the combo of the ME-RC50 and MMS1012 Inverter charger can do. If I order these items how do I know what firmware level I'm getting on the remote and the inverter/charger?

As I said before: ANY VERSION of the MMS 1012, regardless of what remote you use WILL NOT ACCEPT THE CUSTOM CHARGE PROGRAMMING FROM THE REMOTE.

In addition, AFAIK, Magnum has no plans to upgrade the charging firmware in the MMS series any time soon.

I emailed Magnum today. I got a reply within a few hours. The reply was positive. With the newer units you are able to change the voltage settings with the MMS1012.

I've already purchased an MMS1012 and RC50 from donrowe.com. The MMS1012 was manufactured in February of this year so I should be good to go.

Thanks

Kelvin

That was an old post. We found the issues with the MMS 1012 last summer. AM Solar found the problem the same time that I did.

I just got off the phone with Magnum tech support. Seems that their notes state that any MMS-1012 after revision 1.4 will work. They had a new unit, revision 1.6 on the bench being tested and the tech affirmed that it would accept the custom map.

As I haven't installed any of the MMS1012 units since last summer and the lithium programming compatibility problem that we found then, I assume that Magnum has indeed made the changes.

I have 2 units and will look at them tomorrow to see what revision that are and whether they will accept the custom map.

Thanks Lew. I appreciate your help.

I wonder what rev 1.6 does compared to rev 1.4.

I can't find on any label the rev of my unit. Since it was built 2/16 I'm assuming 1.4.

With 12VDC connected to the inverter's terminals, the information about the version of both the inverter and the ME-RC will show in the remote's display.

Leave the remote disconnected and then plug it in when you can read it. All of the pertinent information will be there as it boots up.

I wonder if the firmware in the 1012 is upgradable. ie. if you buy one and it's older, is it just a firmware upgrade?

I doubt that it is a simple software issue. If it IS hardware (control board) that needs to be replaced, it would prove to be an expensive proposition as the main board in the MMS would need to be replaced as the control section is located on it.

The larger Magnums have separate boards for each function. A quick call to Magnum tech support at 425-353-8833 will get you the definitive answer.

Got a second email from Magnum. All newly shipping MMS1012 now have rev 1.6. This will allow custom charger settings.

Not sure if mine manufactured in February has 1.6. Can't hook it up yet.

Just powered up. Version 1.6. It does accept the custom programming as well as the final 'silent' mode. The only difference from the larger units is the absorb time setting.

The MS-2012 and above will allow you to set absorb time to a minimum of zero with tenth on an hour increments. We use 0.2 hours up to and including 300 A/H Lithiums and 0.3 hours above.

The MMS-1012 will only allow a minimum absorb time of 1.0 hours.
No big deal really.
