Inverter/Fusebox

I have a 1971 Airstream International. I have a problem with the inverter, when I plug the trailer in to my garage it seems to cycle and make a buzzing noise and dim the lights in the garage. Any ideas as to what might be going on and what are my options? Also, if replacing the inverter is the only option, any sugestions as to what would work? Thanks

I think you mean converter. It makes 12 volts DC from shore power.

I would not hesitate to pull out the old one and replace it with a modern 3 stage unit. The replacement units are quiet, reliable and don't overcharge your battery.

I replaced mine with a Intelli Power 9245 several years ago and have been very happy with the new unit.

you should check the condition of the battery(s). are they severely discharged. is their water at the proper level?

we don't know the condition of your garage wiring. does a load of 8 amps or so make the lights dim?

the hum from older converters is normal.

once you know the state of the batteries, buy them a nice new converter that will keep them properly charged :-)

I would talk to Randy here: https://bestconverter.3dcartstores.com/
He is a forums member and has been helping Airstreamers for many years.
