intellipower 9200

Hi
I just replaced the univolt in my 1966 overlander and had a couple of questions/concerns.
First I am not a wiz electronically but I believe the 92000 is installed just as the directions advised. I also consulted the forum for ideas before tackeling the job. I have the two red wires on the pos connector and the white on the neg. I did not change out the old 12 v fuse pannel yet as I wanted to see if I could get things (12 v lights and outlets) working first.
Anyway I plugged in the trailer to 110 and the 92000 seemed to be working ok as I had 12 v lights, fans and the outlets worked. I let the 92000 plugged in for some time and noticed that it was quite hot and the fan was not running?? I understand that the unit has a thermal shutdown for protection but was concerned that it was getting pretty hot and no fan. I unplugged the trailer from the 110 and the little remote mode selector indicated that it was "full" on ie. charging the battery? Its been unplugged for 24 hours and the indicator is still on and I still have 12 v lights in the coach. So it must have charged the battery some because I am pretty sure it had no charge. I have a battery status/checker mounted on the wall in a bathroom cabinet but it either doesn't move or bounces a little but goes back to poor or no charge.
So I am I going to burn the 92000 up, is it defective, when should the fan come on? Am I messing things up by not swithching out the 12v fuse pannel.
Oh I also wanted to thank the forum for help on the water heater issue I had. I'll be posting a picture soon the final result look pretty darn good.
Thanks

Try disconnecting the battery then turn the power on and see how hot it gets. You may have a bad battery. The old fuse panel is fine. The only reason to change one would be to go to the new style of fuses.

Thanks Ramp I'll try that tomorrow. One question and it might be ...well stupid. If I disconnect the battery and plug back into 110 will my 12v lights work? or just the 110 outlets?

Ramp,
Disconnected the battery as suggested. 92000 seems to be functioning properly. I still have the 12 v lights. So now before the next outing I'll need to pick up a battery and all should be good. Does it hurt to keep the trailer plugged in with out a battery? Seems I read somewhere that it's not such a good Idea long term.
Thanks
Again
John

You should be OK with a modern converter like the 9200 without a battery.

Pick,
Thanks, just didn't want to assume it would be OK. Not that I plan on being without a battery long just wanted to be able to see in the couch while working when the sun goes down.

I have a couple more questions regarding the battery and the IP 92000 I just put in. I took the battery out Its not but couple years old and appears "flat" indicating a needed recharge by the red light on the top of the battery. I tried to take it to a local auto parts store that checks batteries and was told that it was down to 10 volts but couldn't tell me if the battery was "good" or weather it would take a charge.
Is it ok to put the battery back in the trailer and let the IP recharge the battery?? or should i find a way to recharge the battery out of the trailer? or lastly just but a new battery.
Another question concerning the groung lug on the side of the unit. Is this supposed to have an 8 guage wire to the frame?
Thanks
John
