I read up on the Parallax 7300, which I have stock, and now realize it's a 1-stage charger. That says it all. You're all right, those don't treat batteries great.

The weather's been mild, so I unplugged from shore power in meanwhile. Will rely on solar power when we can based on weather. Likely will take everyone's advice, but it's been kind of an expensive month already, with taking delivery of this AS, Christmas, kids home from college and all..

Battery switch must be in "use" position for charge to work

This may have been mentioned above, so forgive me if this is a repeat. I learned this quite by accident and posted on it a few days ago. The battery charger (at least on our 2006 19' Bambi) is not connected to the batteries if the battery switch is in the store position. If you are not connected to 110V it is easy to tell when the switch is in "use"....the light is on. But if you are plugged into 110V the light is always on....for both "use" and "store." If the switch was in the "store position" when you plugged in, it will remain in this position even though the light is on. When that is the case, the batteries are not connected to the charger. So when you want to charge, just make sure to push the switch in to the "use" position even when the light is on.

P.S. This tidbit is in the manual..... but who reads the manual?
