How do you add a converter to a 1960 A.S

I have blue, red, white, and brown wires coming out the front curb side. I have two battery wires coming out the front middle of the coach. Do I use a converter or inverter/charger. I would like to see pics and learn how you people have done it.

I have a 2002 converter wired to a 1973 airstream fuse panel with all the. All help and pics are welcomed.

I'm a bit confused with your situation...

I guess you have some electrical components from a later AS that you wish to install into your 1960?

I'm not 'up' on the wiring of 60's vintage trailers...however, I would think they would have some kind of fuse panel or terminal block for the various 12 volt circuits to be attached to the battery (s)...

A converter/charger is nothing more than a 12 volt 'source' of energy for your trailer when it's plugged into external 120 VAC power...and as such, the C/C's 12 volt output wires (POS & NEG) are hooked to the fuse panel, directly to the POS and NEG cables coming from the battery, through 50 amp fuses for each cable...

I'd try to get a wiring diagram for an older AS to help guide you through the process...

In any event, you'll have identify what each of the 'wires' you described are hooked to, what circuits, etc...which are POS leads and which are NEG (if any)...

A cheap digital volt-ohm meter will be a big help to identify you wiring circuits, etc...

Brian.

Read a 73 service manual, and it will answer all your electrical questions, both 12 VDC and 120 VAC. Plus it will show your how you can upgrade many other things in the older coach.

How will a '73 service manual help someone who has a 1960 A$?
I would think there were a number of changes over 13 years.

A 1973 service manual will provide the basics of how it was done, so that the owner can upgrade his Airstream.

Many owners do that.

An Airstream parts stocking dealer can help you.

A 1973 service manual didn't. I looked at so many different threads on this site and communicated with a bunch of different forum members. One of the forum members was very nice and came out to my house to show me how to put the converter and fuse panel in. Honestly that is how I got it accomplished.

The sad note is the 1960 is still not finished. Money has been tight and work is pretty crazy right now. One more year and I retire. I do plan on picking up the pace on the airstream after next weekend.

I am taking my 1973 Overlander to the beach in South Carolina this weekend. It will be a work and pleasure three day trip.
