Happy Battery

Our poor Bambi lost battle to rediculous amounts of snow a little more than a month ago. Today we finally got a path shoveled to the door. Up to a month ago we were plugging in three days, out five. Imagine my surprise when I checked the battery today and everything was fine, lights bright and shiney. I can't belive it wasn' t more run down after a month of just sitting. Happy days for me. Now just have to finish moving all the snow.

I now have solar but when I didn't I would always leave the batteries for about 3 months before hooking them up to a battery charger for 24 hours.
They are now 5 years old and still working.

If there is no load on the battery at all, it will not self discharge to any appreciable extent, especially when it is cold. Battery chemistry slows down by half for each 10 degrees C below 80 F.

I am about to return to the North where my two trailers and TV are, sitting under cover with their batteries disconnected for 5 months. It was as low as 0 F this winter. I am going to carefully monitor the voltage on them, and then the exact recharge amp hours needed to restore to full. I will post a full report in a couple of weeks.
