group 24 or group 27

I have a '03 31 ' classic and find that group 27 battery very hard to install. Very tight space. What is trade off for installing group 24? Other than size of course. Thank you for you help.

Group 27 batteries have an Amp hour capacity of about 100.

Group 24 batteries have an Amp hour capacity of about 75 to 80.

So, reduced capacity for boondocking is the main issue.

Not meaning to hi-jack this thread, looking to see if group AGM 27T's will fit in the battery box of a 28 foot Flying Cloud without making any modifications to the box?

I think "Lew" posted a method earlier this year to turn the Group 27 AGM Lifelines so they dropped right in, but I don't have the link. That would be our next battery mod as well, unless Lithium takes a substantial price drop.

I also would like to know how 27s could be put into a box built for 24s?

Here's a shot of two group 31 Lifeline AGMs that are in the box on a 2012 25' FB FC. The hinge needed to be modified, but that was it.

What modification did you do to the hinge?

Doug, it's not my trailer, but from what I was told, the lip where the hinge was attached was cut out. My guess is it was re riveted to the box wall. I could probably get you contact info if needed.

The owners had a LA dealership do the work for an outrageous sum of something like $75, they bought the batteries themselves and had them drop shipped to the dealer. Maybe $600 total cost with batts. I was told another dealer wanted over $2000 to do the work.
