I have replaced the battery in my Argosy with a pair of 6V golf cart batteries, replaced the converter with a 60 amp Xantrex converter/charger, and run new power cables. The original (glass fuse) distribution panel remains. It is giving me grief and needs to be replaced.
Question --- does anyone know of a marine grade blade fuse distribution panel that has 5 or 6 <30A fuse positions and a 'master' Maxi Fuse that protects the whole panel? I have not found one, thought I would ask here before I make something special to get this fixed permanently.
Here is what I did:
I purchased a parallax fuse panel and a black plastic project box with a cover and some standoffs for the board from radio shack (fuse panel came from bestconverter.com).
The ground and 12v are both protected by fuses. The fuse inside the box is for the 12v. The bare wires in the upper left corner are the trailer ground wires. The circuits are rated for 20 amps except where you see the piggyback which is rated for 30 amps. The battery cables were left over from another project.
Crispyboy,
That round hole where it says Conv Pos is where you connect the positive cable from the converter. A ring terminal with a screw and nut to secure it. It will power all nine circuits if needed.
Then you can run two 30 amp fuses for reverse polarity.
Yes, and they do not have anything in the Catalog od local store that answers the problem.
I COULD just make something up that would work using a wire bus, standard multi-position blade fuse board, and separate 60 Amp maxi-fuses to protect both panel and ground. The batteries are fused at the mounting location, so no worries there.
