do i need a battery to run tail lights?

i was just wondering if i needed to have a battery hooked up on my 65 tradewind for the tail lights or running lights to work. i know on small trailers i have you don't, i did'nt know if an old airstream was an exception.

As long as the trailer is hooked to the tow vehicle, then the lights will work. The batteries in the trailer also serve to power the break-away system in case the trailer and tow vehiclel become separated, then the trailer brakes will be applied.

The lights will work without the battery, but you should have a working battery hooked up on the trailer or the emergency tailer brakes will not work is the trailer get separated from the tow vehicle.

What is your TV, and have you hooked back up to another trailer to make sure they work. I have an F150, which has a separate fuse for clearance/tail lights to my receiver connection. I had it blow once and it really threw me for a loop, didn't make sense that they worked on my truck, but not the trailer.
