Do I need a battery?

I have a '67 globetrotter with a univolt II converter. The battery compartment is located beneath one of the beds and after reading various threads regarding the need to vent the battery, I'm wondering whether I need or want to replace my battery that recently went bad. I truly doubt that I will ever camp someplace without electricity, so is there any reason I need to deal with replacing the battery (and the converter)?

The battery regulates the output of the Univolt.

Running the Univolt, without a battery is asking for the Univolt to fail, the first time the city power has a voltage spike.
