Do I have an inverter?

I know there are no dumn questions, but this one sure feels dumn: I was told by the dealer that my microwave is run by the inverter. When I tried the microwave without shore power, it did not power on. I looked for an inverter switch in the electric panel, and only found circut breakers . . . no inverter switch, no evidence of an inverter.

I have a 2007 Safari FB SE. Does anyone know if this model comes standard with an inverter, and if so where is it?

Thanks to all for a great forum!

I believe an Inverter from AS is an option...the dealer you bought your AS from may have added one???

You need lots of battery amp hours to run a larger inverter for very long...the smaller inverters will allow you to run your TV and DVD player for the evening if you have two batteries in your AS.

The optional AS inverter is only about 400 watts, as I recall, and is way to small (wattage wise) power your microwave...it will charge your cell phone, iPod, shaver, etc., but not the larger wattage stuff like a coffee maker, etc.

I had to install a 1500 watt inverter to be able to power our small microwave oven, and even though it 'runs', it isn't really enough power to cook stuff very quickly...it takes popcorn about twice as long to pop using the inverter, versus regular shore power.

I'm not familiar with the way AS wires the optional inverter, and where the controls are, etc...perhaps someone on the forum with that option in a new AS can help you...

Not stupid at all

I think somehow your dealer is confused. The A/C and Microwave both require you to be connected to shore power (120VAC) When your connected to shore power your converter will charge your 12VDC battery and operate your 12VDC appliances, like your lights, water pump, Furnace, Fans, etc.

The A/C and Microwave both require too much power to run off of 12VDC via a inverter.

An inverter is an electrical or electro-mechanical device that converts direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC); the resulting AC can be at any required voltage and frequency with the use of appropriate transformers, switching, and control circuits.

A converter goes the opposite direction AC to DC. Normally a converter is in the trailer for charging the batteries and operating 12volt lights and appliances when using shore power

Thanks for your thoughts. I have come to the conclusion that there is no inverter in my A/S and the dealer just got mixed up with one of his other units.

If I were to add one, is there a particular place in the Safari 27 FB SE that would be designated for the inverter? Where would the factory put it?
