Did we ever decide....

......definitively if non-flooded batteries need to be vented?

I've read so many comments about this I can't remember what the correct answer is. Basically, as I recall, flooded batteries MUST be vented to the outside of the camper because of the risk of explosion due to hydrogen gas.

But I also seem to remember that gell cell or glass mat batteries don't have those issues, so they don't need to be vented. Am I remembering all the facts correctly??

TIA, gang.

I think that the "code" says that even agm's need to be vented. So, if you're in the trailer manufacturing business...yeah. But many others say "bah! humbug!" to that.

helpful, eh?

I seem to remember Colin saying some words to that effect on an episode of The Vap. Thanks Chuck.

Oh Yeah, just in case, what do y'all think of venting it thru the vent pipe for the plumbing? I got a million ideas. Some are better than others, of course.

The code says vented "directly to the outside", so I think as long as the vent doesn't have any traps or deadlegs it would be fine.

I teed mine into the graywater vent and it's worked well.

Thanks, Don. Think you can make me a custom set up like that for my '73?

We have 4 AGM batteries mounted under the bed and laying on their side. We are still alive and haven't blown the trailer up yet!
