Depth of new deeper battery box?
I thinking of modifying or changing the tongue mounted battery box on my 2006 trailer to fit golf cart batteries.
I believe that Airstream changed to a deeper box that fits golf cart batteries
in 2016 or so.
Anyone know how deep the new box is?
I'm pretty sure I could make it about 3" deeper without any issues (still above the jack and spare tire) but I'm curious how deep the factory went.

Thanks for posting that.
I have seen that before and in fact it's one of the places that I'm stealing ideas from....

I measured one at the factory last fall, a 2016 model, and it was 2" deeper. The other dimensions were the same.

I would go with the taller cover, easier I think. Of course, stainless steel makes it look better. Measure your intended batteries first, to make sure you have room.

I have 4 golf cart batteries on my 34' 2000 airstream. Two in the box below the LP tanks and one each in the battery compartment that I made 3" higher. I also had to have the compartment doors made higher. They fit like a glove.

I wish I could go taller. Our trailer is a 25' FB with twin beds. There is a outside storage compartment door just behind the battery box. If I made the box any higher it would interfere with opening this door...

Regarding hitting things on the road, I placed a long straightedge front the forward lowest point (jack fully raised ) and closest rear (spare tire). It worked out to an extension of about 3 inches.

I have a 2015. The battery box is 9 7/8 deep.
I have designed an add on piece with a new lid that adds 2" in height and changes the hinge to get an inch in the opening size.
I am installing it tomorrow and if all goes well watch for a post later this weekend of the details.
