Dead ...really dead

Well, it happened. My Brother got the Caravel from me last month and after a great trip to Calif (home) he is on the way back to Texas. Last night in Arizona (on the Mogollon Rim) he boondocked. This A.M. time for coffee..Yep, no electricity. All dead even the truck. We are still sorting it out, but I bet he left the fridg on 12v, used the lights late and left the inverter on. Plus, he left the truck connected to Lulu.....(Caravel name). I know this has been discussed in forems before but I can't find it. Any suggestions for him.....other than join the Forem. He loves that Caravel.

He can unplug the trailer, remove the battery, get the truck jump started, go into town and get the batteries charged.
Then when he gets back, make sure the fridge is on LP when boondocking, and overnight.
He can also get a small (okay, not so small) solar charger to help keep the batteries charged.

Everything Terry said, plus join here so he can educate himself on some of the do's and don'ts. However, I'm sure this particular lesson has been learned...

Maybe he should get a small Honda generator. He could charge his batteries when needed.

I will be headed across the rim next Thursday on my way to Big Lake, I'll keep an eye out for him.

1. Join here
2. Put relay on tow rig so that when the rig is turned off it disconnects the charge for the trailer so this won't happen again.

Educate him on all the functions of the trailer so that it doesn't happen again or let him buy you a new battery every time he goes out!

MR,

You need to have a battery isolator/seperator installed in your TV ASAP. If you had one, your TV battery would not be drawn down by the trailer....even if the trailer's batteries were dead. You always have a fully charged TV battery this way.

As usual.....

You guys are great!!! Isolater this week end, a look at solar charger and pass on the "words of wisdom." Thanks.

To late to look for him in Arizona. He checked in from South Padre Island (the real South Padre ...by Port Isabel) with his fully charged battery.

The only thing I can think of to add, is the alternator in the truck is not a battery charger. If he tries to charge the batteries with it, he will cook the alternator in short order.

Or buy a Ford. They disconnect the trailer battery line when the ignition is shut off.

I just unplug the TV when I camp-kind of a bio-cerebral relay. Works good if you don't exceed the memory
