That is the upgrade I would love to do, but I have no money.
So we'll just get a couple of Interstate batteries for now.
Maybe in 3 years things will look better financially.

Has anyone installed Optima Blue Top batteries with the stock converter?
I know it may be comparing apples to oranges, but I have put Optima Yellow Top batteries in 2 vehicles with no other upgrades.
I guess a car's alternator is different from an RV's converter.

In/from my professional automotive experience, we will not ever use Optima anymore. Way too many problems. However the Odyssey batteries (competitor) have been great. Take beatings and keep on charging. Have had several "dead" units brough back to life and still function and test good.

I am not an expert but my guess is you should probably change the converter. I'm going to change mine to a three stage here shortly.

The dealer recommended and installed an Optima blue top as an aux battery in our truck, and I have since regretted it. I have not had any quality issues, but I don't like the fact that it has less amp hours than other AGM batteries with a similar footprint.

Seems like your truck should have a Red Top (starting) or Yellow Top (accessories such as high power stereo).
Blue Top is for boats and RV's.

Uh...
How do I know what converter I have?
Apparently I need to know what I have in order to replace it.
Output? 35 amp? 60 amp?
Hmm...

Mine had that information on the inside of the fold down door. Mine was a 55 amp, and I replaced it with the PD 4655 that I got through Amazon.

Can't even see that model on Amazon-
See PD 9260CV, PD9270V, PD9245CV-
Call Progressive Dynamics-
Until I know what I have they can't tell me what I need-
I am at work-
Not at trailer-

m.honey Newer trailers need the 4655, and is installed in the wall. The 9260 is for older trailers, and is a stand alone that's under the couch. Look before you order. Youtube will show how the 4655 is installed. My 9260 was easy to install, after I removed the couch

OK.
That contradicts information I got from Lewster.
He says the 4655 is for 30 amp trailers and my 50 amp trailer needs the 9260.

I figured removing the couch and the wooden cabinet over/around the converter/charger would be necessary.
I already noticed that the little cabinet is only attached at the front by 2 small screws. Quality workmanship, Airstream...

m.honey Lew Farber aka Lewster trumps all of my opinions...he does this for a living. My trailer is a 1999 30 amp. and I'm still learning. The 9200 series looks like a small loaf of bread, compared to the 4655 thats looks like a box. I ordered a box when I needed a loaf, Amazon does have both. My opinion is worth 2c... Lewster's... priceless.
