I installed solar myself on my prior trailer. And it had a jumper for different battery types. So when I read the manual for the controller airstream uses for factory solar I "had an eye out" and read carefully. The engineer in me. J

Don't forget Lew Farber from AM Solar in Florida, and Andy from Inland RV Corona California. Like Randy, all three are huge contributors of friendly advice to this forum.

Good and they are different animals. I am going to upgrade my converter when I get home.

My 2012 is in the shop now upgrading to Progressive Dynamics 4655 - the built in charge wizard has a profile specific to AGM batteries. Also adding the Trimetric monitor so hopefully I won't have problems again. These were recommendations from both Best Converter and my Airstream dealer. I'm looking at Renogy or Zamp portable solar solution for the rare times we boondocks or experience an emergency like we had last summer where we were trapped by downed trees and no power for a week.

Hmm...
I need batteries.
May replace original Interstate batteries with more Interstate batteries.
The Interstate batteries are basically half as much money as the AGM batteries. I know they'll only last 3 years, but I'm broke and cannot afford a $600 upgrade.

My replacement interstates are starting year 6. Have to do another capacity test when I unwinterize it, but I'm pretty sure they're still strong.

I am sure I'm in for one more set of group 29 interstates before we explore if our retirement lifestyle requires a battery type upgrade.

We switched AGM (Lifeline GPL-4CT) 6+ years ago and love it! To charge, we installed the Magnum MS2812.

The Magnum features 4-stage charging (Bulk, Absorb, Float, Equalize (requires remote), and Battery Saver, which essentially is monitor). Setup includes battery type AGM, so charge voltages are dialed.

The "battery saver" mode is designed for long periods of connected to shore shore. When batteries are full, charging stops and charge state is monitored - simple.
