Converter Problem???

Have a Safari equipped with a Parallax 7300 Converter. Purchased the unit new in 2004. Recently while travelling in the south have noticed that the Converter is cycling constantly or running during the entire day. Batteries are original equipment but have been tested and still meet specs.
Ant input would be appreciated.

First are you sure the converter is cycling or is it just the fan on the converter you hear cycling?

Disconnect the batteries and check the voltage on them. Now hook up the converter and record the voltage, watch the voltmeter when you hear the converter cycle. If the converter is working the voltage should be about 13.8 while charging. If there is no increase when you hear the converter or if there is a small decrease I would say it is the fan cycling. This may be because of dirt in the converter.

Think Howie is onto something. Also, if they are still orig batteries, the odds are they are beginning to fail. In addition, the converter in these units cook the batteries. Should you need new batteries or a new converter, go with a 3 stage charger as found at

Did this with my unit before I replaced the batteries. Takes about 30 minutes to swap out and about $200 in cost, but will keep your batteries in good shape longer.
