Converter brand / Your Opinion

I am going to buy a converter for my 1960 Overlander. In my 73 Overlander I put an Intel 45 Amp in. I got a fantastic deal on it a few years ago and i would like to go with the same. I am shopping for a used Converter because I really need to keep my costs as low as possible. I want to buy a good brand

What brands do you think are good? I want it to run my DC and also charge my battery. I want it to quit charging when the battery is charged. That is how my Intel works.

Does anybody have a 30 to 45 amp converter they want to sell? I have priced a brand new Intell for $1.19 not including shipping. I am looking to pay about 50 or 60 dollars for a used one. If I can't get a deal I will just buy the intel new.

I like IOTA myself. Get a nice 3 stage to protect your batteries. Others have there favs. I purchased mine here, Best Converter.com. Good prices with great service, Randy is very helpful and active on here. Give him a call.

Ditto on BestConverter.com and Randy.

Thanks guys. I have heard they are nice converters. I wish I could get one out of a wrecked RV for under 100.00.

You can get a 30amp IOTA on there for around $150.00. Not too much of a leap from $100.

I do like the Inteli-Power converters myself, but there is a Parallax for sale in the Classifieds for $70.

I own an Inteli and I like it for my other trailer. The price is $119.00 which is not bad. It is small which is another plus. I think that is what I am going to go with. I will get the 30 or 45 Amp. I don't use that much electricity anyway. Just some lights and the T.V. or radio.

That's what I'd do. By the time you factor in your time and the hassle, the money you save by going with something used vs what you want, new with a warranty, pales by comparison.

I need to replace the intellipower in my trailer, and we only installed it in 2005. I don't know how long they should last, but I was thinking longer than that.

Hi Stephanie,

I agree with you.

I've had one in my Trade Wind since the early '90s. I lived in it full time for several of those years. That experience was one of the reasons I replaced the Univolt in my Excella with an Inteli-Power even though the Univolt was "working fine." At lease as fine as a Univolt ever works.

Sorry about your bad luck.
