If the Parallax is a single stage converter what I have heard a multistage converter is always better on your batteries.

Robere: Look on the inside cover of your converter. The last 2 digits signifies the amperage. I think you need a PD4655. You're Parallax is probably either a 7355 or a 8355.

Replace your existing converter with one of the same amperage (PD4645 = 45A, etc.). That should be stated on the converter face plate, or in your owner materials.

ANY existing converter on the market is still a compromise for properly charging Lifelines. A Magnum inverter with full temperature compensation is still BEST.

The 'normal' mode on the PD-4655 is 13.6VDC, which should equate to the absorption charge. Lifelines like this to be 14.2-14.4VDC @77 deg. F.

The other feature of an absorb charge is that the amperage tapers slowly as the battery fills and approaches 100% state of charge.

13.6VDC will work for those, but will significantly increase the required charge time to attain a full charge.

Did you do the installation yourself?

Does the PD 4655 fit into the same opening as the Parallax 7355?

Where did you purchase the PD 4655 and your Lifeline AGM's?

Sorry for so many questions. I'm fairly good a mechanical things but never quite mastered the electrical field. Thanks!

Hans,

The PD-4655 replacement is a direct wire-for-wire conversion from the old Parallax unit. You should have no problems doing it yourself, as it fits into the exact same space as your OEM unit. Plan on 1-1.5 hours.

My poor 4 year old interstate's are still being charged by the original parallax and they will most likely last another 2-3 years and then they will be replaced with new interstate 's......

I am not a fan of AGM batteries. I don't really see the value in paying big bucks for batteries that will last about as long as flooded cell batteries that cost 1/3 the price, let alone paying more money for a converter that will work well with them.

When I ruin a set of flooded cell batteries by inadvertently and absent mindedly discharging them it does not hurt so bad...

(I think that flooded cell batteries are more tolerant of abuse than AGMs)

I got your PM's but just haven't had time to read and understand. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience!

I just ordered a PD-4655 to replace my Parallax. While fairly competent with most mechanical things, I'm a bit challenged with electrical projects. But I'm going to give it a try and have several people who have offered to assist if necessary.

Thanks for everyone's input!
