Car Battery Low Disconnect in '68

Hello all. I have a dilemma with my ’68 Sovereign that I truly hope someone can help me solve (or point me to a thread that I can figure it out from). Anyhow, I have gone camping now two with my Sovereign and it has been a blast, always of course finding little things that need addressing. But one issue I cannot figure out is that at the end of each trip I hook up my tow vehicle and then notice on my control panel in the AS that the Battery Low Disconnect is on (so my vehicle is not charging the batteries. This has caused me to already once have to take my battery out of the AS and charge it at a local gas station because the AS would not power off my tow vehicle (thus not allowing my electric hitch to work). Anyhow, my dilemma is what is causing this? I have replaced the old univolt with a new WFCO unit and put in a bank of two deep cell batteries, but still after the last three day boondocks trip again the Battery Low Disconnect was on when hooking up to go home (albeit I had plenty of power in the AS batteries to power the hitch this time).

Also, one last question around the control panel in the ’68 models; it appears my batteries are always registering one the middle of the battery condition and never in the high “green” level (even though they are fully charged). Is there a way to adjust this dial, or get it to ready accurately? Also, my amp meter (the one below the battery condition indicator) dose not work, so I was hoping someone with experience around the control panel for this year can give me some pointers.

Thanks

Crair, Are you attending our Silver Falls rally? There are a couple of '68s showing up and may be able to help you with your problem. I've done two '68s and that control panel was only used on the '68s. I disconnected the "low battery" feature on both and solved the problem. The ampmeter and battery condition meter may be just old meters. The '68 panel is very "cool" however, and is unique. Darol

I might try to make it to the Silver Falls rally as a day trip to chat with other AS owners. I would love to get some insights into some of the issues I have faced and see what others have done. I do really like the control panel, but I have entertained the idea of perhaps putting in a “modern” control panel in a hidden location for more accurate battery conditions and tank levels. Right now the only thing it seems to good for is the Water Pump switch, giving me a 115 vac outlet, and off course preventing me from charging my batteries from my vehicle on the way home : ) It dose look cool though.

Crair, you may want to check that the 12 volt charge line to the trailer is hot. I remember a few posts where the fuse for that line was not installed by default.
