Can't find Univolt
Hello,
I can't find the univolt in my 1963 safari 22 ft, is there no univolt ? or is it hidden very well ? I would like to convert the electricity to europian standard 220 volt.
And where would the fuses be if there are any ?
I am a total bum when it comes to electricity..... so your help is welcome !

You shouldn't have a univolt on a 1963.

Off of the auto that is pulling it or a battery charger. What do you have in the Airstream that runs off 12 VDC? It shouldn't be much unless it has been changed somewhere back in time by a previous owner.

I asked this question the other day about a 62. The answer came back that the 62s did not have a charging system in the trailer but rather just charged off the TV while towing.
You may have the same condition. Look at the wires going to the battery. If they are small # 12 wires you more than likely do not have a Univolt. If they are larger wires say # 8 or larger than the trailer may have had one originally.
If you install a converter make sure you size the wires to the output of the converter. A 40 amp converter would require at least # 8 wire going from the converter to the battery.

A 63 has a vent fan and a overhead fan that will have two position switches so they can run off 12 or 110 volt. They will have dual wall sconces and dual bulbs in the overhead lights so you can run off either 110 or 12 volt. Put in a converter or carry a battery charge for more versatility.

Yes, '63 models didn't have anything onboard to charge the battery, it was done through the charge line from the tow vehicle. I installed a late-model converter in our '63 near the battery compartment, and left the plug where I could unplug it if needed. If you don't want to invest in a converter, you can pick up an inexpensive battery charger to keep the battery charged.
