Looks like the batteries need replacement. Suggestions sought. Have been using 2 27D's. Anyone using 8D.

Can't say too much about the subject myself, but I do wonder why you need such large batteries. 8D's weigh about 125 Lbs or so. That's a lot of weight.
Maybe I am missing something here. Don't know! I use a single, but large deep cycle marine battery.

Our '04 has 2 (factory installed) grp-24 deep-cycle batteries in it.

I used a 4d AGM in my 98 ly mh in place of 2 27's. Worked great for me, but I did have to lower float voltage.

I too would be interested in suggestions for a battery replacement for a vintage trailer. The compartment is curb-rear and currently holds a single battery only - tight fit.

Trying again to post.

We searched High and low to find a battery that would fit into the compartment of our 1960 Overlander. My husband found one at a farm and ranch suplly in Wyoming. It fits perfectly, but we still need new connections to make sure it works.

I am trying to post some pictures of it. Maybe it will be of help to someone.

What you have there is a forklift battery, did you recently buy it? The date code indicates it is 11 months old as of now.

I think that would fit in my 59 battery box. If mostly on electric hook up it would be fine.

By the way, the 3ET is the BCI group number, that is what you would ask for when you go to buy it. Obviously any Interstate battery dealer can get you one.

See that bright green-and-white sticker with "8-3" on it? August-2003. That is the date code that shows when it was built. Also if you look at the corner of the battery, you will see H3 heat stamped into it. Probably won't hurt anything, but it has been sitting for about 11 months, before you bought it.

Not really worried when it was built. As long as it was filled recently (it was) and charged. We need it for lights only. Most important, it fits! Interstate Battery in Denver could not figure out what would fit. The point of the post is this: If you need a battery for a 59-60, these numbers will get you there at any Interstate dealer. I was told this was a battery for a tractor.

Turns out my 27"s have come back to life. They were low on water and after topping off were 12.17 volts. Now they are up to 13.17 volts. Guess they are OK. Have to check the water level more regularly.
Next ones for the 59 will be sealed.

I thought that those little tabs that are missing is when it was sold. That looks like JL of 04
Did you mean when it was manufactured?
I think the warrenty date goes from when it was sold, right?

Warranty goes from date sold, but when you go to the grocery store, you look for the gallon of milk with the freshest date on it. If the person selling it forgets to punch out the selling date, warranty goes back to date of manufacture. (8-03)

I just put an Optima blue top in my 24' Argosy last night. They are pricey but the $75.00 battery didn't last and I wanted a battery that I didn't have to worry about checking water level.
I am hooked up to shore power most of the time, so put my charge wizard on storage mode to start with. Will let you know if it's worth the extra money!
They do have to be vented!! The yellow top have a tube that a hose can be hooked too, but they are too big for my battery box so I went with the blue top. The blue tops have holes that have a hard material in them that let it vent. So the part about laying them on there side's is wrong.
