Battery Tender Question

Have read through several threads but not finding a direct answer to a question - if using a battery tender for long-term storage, am interested in your thoughts on whether a 5 amp tender is needed or if a 1.25 amp unit would be adequate - batteries are in original configuration i.e. positive to positive and negative to negative - any thoughts / suggestions are welcome!

I prefer a BatteryMinder brand and the smaller one is adequate for long term maintenance.

DITTO!

Their model 12248 is especially good, as it it adjustable for type of battery AND had a temperature sensor.

I have several of the small Battery Tenders that I use on motorcycles but they will keep a full size battery charged as well. You don't need 5A if all you are doing is floating a battery that has not load on it. There are small current draws on a normal system unless the battery is physically unhooked from the trailer. If the battery is sitting on the floor of the garage the small tender will work. If you are going to keep it connected to the trailer electrical system and larger one would be better.

Would Lew or anyone comment on the VMAX BC1215 Battery Charger?

Looked at the specs. It has no adjustment for type of battery. I would get the BatteryMinder 12248, as it does enable you to select the battery type, has temperature compensation and is adjustable for 2,4 or 8 amp charging.
