Even though the battery disconnect switch is in the off position, and there is no shore power, and the fridge is turned off, the fridge has been running ( it's cold ) and the batteries are now dead. We are not able to establish if we have done something wrong. Thanks from Joyce and Jim

If the fridge is turned off, but it's still running, something wrong with the fridge. Off should be off.

Once you have the batteries charged again, disconnect shore power and move the battery disconnect switch to the off position. Now, go check your CO or Propane monitor, which should run off your 12 volts. If it's still on, then the disconnect switch is not removing all battery power from the circuits inside the trailer. You can also check for 12 volts with the interior lights, radio, etc. Nothing should work if the battery is truly disconnected by the switch.

On the newer trailers the battery disconnect switch kills everything except the propane detector. While your fridge will run on gas, it needs some power from the battery to keep the "brains" working.

If you are sure you had the disconnect fully in the off position, you may have some problem with the switch or how the fridge was wired. Once you get the battery back in charge you might try to turn the swtich off and recheck things again. If the fridge stays on, try some of the interior lights and see if they work. You will find out quickly if it's a switch issue or fridge wiring.

Does the read out on the fridge that tells the temperature work? If so, the batteries may not be totally dead. If not, it's possible that the fridge will just keep getting colder and colder because there is no brain to tell it to shut off to maintain a constant temp. Or, of course, the wiring may be screwed up.
