Battery switch HELP?

There is a battery switch behind the Goucho in front of my 85 Excella, just above the Converter. It says ON OFF. What does this switch do?
I am still trying to learn about this Camping thing without a tent. Getting to old for them. I have posted pics of the Excella under the intorduction web page titled 85 Excella 34'.
Thanks for any help given.

The switch should be a main battery disconnect. Disconnects the battery or batteries from the rest of the 12 volt system.

Not sure if it isolates the batteries, but I know none of the lights work in the AS if the switch is turned to off.

It should disconnect everything except the electric jack if you have one.

On/Off switch

I have a dual battery setup on the 2002 Classic, and when I went to hook the battery up I got a spark when putting down the Neg cable. ( I put the positive down first). this didn't seem right and I checked the on/off switch and it was off. I have the thing torn apart and do see some other leads off the main terminal. Thanks for the tip on the electric jack. Anyone know if anything else it hooked up before the on/off switch?? The drawing isn't very clear.
