Battery Storage

Is it safe to leave the battery hooked up to the coach over winter? I have the coach plugged into the house so the battery will get power all winter. Thought I would check the water periodically. Sound ok?

I wouldn't reccomend leaving the trailer plugged in all winter, you could boil your batteries dry, and ruin them. On the other hand, leaving them in, and not plugged in, they could freeze, and also ruin them. Some forum members have been experimenting with a timer to only turn on the power to the trailer for an hour or so a day. That would keep the batteries charged, and minimize the chance for boiling them dry. A forum search under "boiling batteries" should find you the info.

It all depends on what type of converter you have. Rather than use the Magnetek converter which the PO replaced the Univolt with, I use a 5 watt PulseTech Solargizer solar charger/maintainer and/or a 1 watt BatteryMinder 3 stage charger. This will be the 4th winter I've used this setup and the batteries are in great shape. I just don't worry about losing water because of the type of charger.
